I'm pretty good at asking everyone else if they're alright. The kids, the wife, mates who've had a rough week. But when someone asks me the same question, the answer is usually "Yeah, all good, mate!" even if my brain has 47 tabs open and one of them is playing music that I can't find.
Looking after yourself matters
Being a dad is brilliant, but it's not always easy. Between work, family life, bills and trying to remember which day the kids need to dress up as a Victorian chimney sweep for school, it's easy to forget to look after yourself.
That's why I think it's important for us blokes to talk a bit more about how we're actually doing. You don't have to be struggling to benefit from a chat, and you certainly don't have to figure everything out on your own.
Two ways to join us
At The Nomad Dads Society, we're doing our bit to get men together, starting with two opportunities to get out, meet people and take a little time for yourself.
On Tuesday 27th October, we're welcoming Alex Goulding to Bedford Rowing Club for a men's mental health check-in. The talk is free, with the £6 ticket covering your first drink. It's a chance to listen, chat and spend an evening doing something for you. You can find tickets through our social media pages.
If you'd rather get some fresh air, we also run a Wellness Walk on the first Sunday of every month at Priory Country Park. We meet by the café entrance at 8:30am for a relaxed hour of walking and chatting. Dogs are welcome, Lycra is optional, and nobody's checking your step count!
Whether you fancy a proper conversation or just want to get out of the house for a bit, you're welcome to join us. Sometimes a walk or a chat with another bloke can make a bigger difference than you realise.
You spend plenty of time looking after everyone else, so don't forget yourself.
And finally, a dad joke to finish
Why did the dad go to the gym to improve his mental health?
Because he wanted to work on his inner strength!
See you out and about!
