Welcome to A Dad About Town – your regular dose of family adventures from the Nomad Dads!

This is where I'll be sharing what we've been up to at our monthly meet-ups around Bedford, along with other brilliant family events happening locally. Our group is all about getting dads together, giving the kids something fun (and occasionally educational!) to do, and having a chat with people who just get it. Whether you've got one child or a minibus full, you're more than welcome to come along, meet some new faces and make some great memories.

Now, I'm definitely not here to tell anyone how to dad. But with three boys under ten, less patience than I have hair, and a waistline that's slowly winning the battle, I've picked up a few stories, a few lessons and the odd survival tip along the way.

Over the coming weeks I'll be sharing plenty of those stories, along with all the fun we've been having as a group.

Our summer so far

We've already had an amazing time this summer. We've become scientists for the day with some brilliant experiments thanks to Little Science Lab, enjoyed teddy bear picnics in the beautiful surroundings of Bedford Park, and even tackled a ponytails and plaits workshop designed especially for dads. I think we all surprised ourselves... and we definitely surprised Amanda from Amanda Jane's Hair Boutique! Who knew we had hidden hairdressing talents?

The best part isn't just the activities though. It's seeing the kids making friends while the dads do the same.

What's coming up?

On Saturday 11th July, we're hosting our very own Bring Your Dad to Sports Day. We've got some fantastic local businesses running all sorts of activities – you just need to bring the kids (and maybe stretch beforehand!).

I don't just want to tell you about Nomad Dads events either. If I spot something fun happening locally that I think families will enjoy, I'll share it here too.

For example, this weekend is The Big Car Weekend at Kimberley College in Stewartby. If your kids are obsessed with Hot Wheels, or you're still secretly a big kid when it comes to cars, it's definitely worth checking out.

Dad hack of the month

Who doesn't love saving a bit of money?

Here's one that's well worth knowing...

Head to: https://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/

Download the 2-for-1 voucher for Bletchley Park, then book the cheapest train ticket you can find from Leighton Buzzard to Bletchley (around £3.70 when I last looked). Show both when you arrive and you'll save yourself over £25. Better still, your ticket to Bletchley Park is an annual pass, and children under eight go free. That's a bargain in anyone's book.

Before you go...

Thanks for reading this far. As a reward, here's a dad joke...

Why can't a T-Rex clap its hands?

Because it's extinct.

(I never promised the jokes would be good.)

I hope this little corner of the community website becomes a handy place to discover new family adventures, local events and the occasional tip that saves your wallet—or your sanity.
